Hi! I’m Angus, an Osteopath and a Dynamic Movement Specialist here at Align Healthcare Clinic.

From teaching skiing for many years in European resorts I always had an interest in how individuals moved and what was the barriers to their skiing progression. In skiing we study the biomechanics of the human body relating these to the movements required in winter sports but people get injured on the slopes or may carry a previous injury which limits their enjoyment on the slopes. This was also true in running and cycling, both sports that I have an active summer involvement in.

By experiencing first hand how individuals can enjoy activity and sport at levels where they have no pain or dysfunction restricting their enjoyment, well being or competitive potential I was looking for a form of manual therapy that would be more beneficial to the individual than current forms of pain relief.

My passion has always been the mountains, skiing but obviously we can’t do this all the time so trail running is my other obsession especially in the hills or mountains – I’d rather be running up them than walking!

Rather than just treating the area of pain Osteopathy allows us to help the body move better, firstly by easing the pain then by reducing compensations and imbalances within the whole musculoskeletal system, reducing further flare ups and allowing the body to get stronger and more stable with the correct prescribed exercises.

This concept can be used for any age of patient, from elite athlete getting injured during training to the elderly who need to increase their overall activity levels to help reduce the risk of falls due to inactivity and the associated problems.

My aim is to get you, the patient, to move better with less pain and overall improve your well-being allowing you to achieve things that may have become more of a barrier or obstacle in everyday life . This can be running your first 5k, half marathon or can simply be playing with the children/ grandchildren. Being active will help physical as well as mental health therefore it is an important part of your journey.
