During your appointment

After completing a questionnaire to get a better understanding of the health of your ears, the Audiologist examine both ears with a small microscope and note down this information.

She will be checking for any damage or infection to the ear drum and canal, as well as the amount of built up ear wax. She will also discuss any concerns or problems that you have been having with your ears.

Once you are happy to proceed, our Audiologist will use a microsuction unit to gently remove all ear wax. The procedure is quick, safe and effective.

The clinician will then reassess the ears and record this information.

All appointments can last up to 30 minutes.

We charge £50 for both ears, or, £25 for the consultation if no ear wax is found.

What is Microsuction?

Unlike water syringing (irrigation), microsuction is one of the safest and most comfortable ways for trained professionals to remove ear wax. The Audiologist will remove the wax precisely and safely, and is able to see directly into the ear canal with our specialist equipment.

Our audiologist uses a small suction tube and binocular microscope to gently assess and remove any excess ear wax.

What causes wax build up?

Ear wax can build up for many reasons including if you wear hearing aids, frequently use cotton buds or ear plugs, or if you naturally produce a lot of ear wax. Ear wax is generally good for the ear, however, when it becomes impacted or excessive, then our audiologist will use a microsuction unit to gently extract it all. Other risk factors include:

  • Producing naturally dry or hard earwax

  • Narrow or hairy ear canals (the tube between the opening of the ear and the eardrum)

  • Earwax becomes drier with age

  • Bony growths in the outer part of the ear canal
